Havre
it's the People
“ I live here because
I like the idea that I am minutes from “nowhere” and “somewhere” at
the same time. “
The Havre area reflects a workable
balance of historic and modern, providing a mix that honors the founding
fathers as well as providing an environment open to change. There is
historic architecture and new construction, combined with plenty of
green spaces.
The
word that best describes Havre is “people.” Great neighborhoods,
first-rate schools, opportunity for higher education, and employment
provide an excellent and affordable quality of life in Havre. A low
crime rate, well-maintained park system, city recreation programs, solid
financial and commercial institutions, shopping, dining, and warm
friendly people make this agricultural community a great place to live.
Community service is a high priority. The volunteers of Lions, Rotary,
Kiwanis, Optimist, Jaycees, the United Way as well as the Chamber, along
with many other community organizations are living out a service
tradition that has deep roots.
Recreation can be
found in town at city parks, the golf courses, historical attractions
and area destinations like Beaver Creek Park and Fresno Reservoir.
The
school systems are an integral part of the community. The Havre Public
School System has built a solid reputation as a district where children
and their needs come first. Staff, parents and community members work
together to provide innovative educational programs which focus on what
today’s youth must know and learn to become tomorrow’s leader. St.
Jude's Thaddeus School has been providing a Catholic education since 1916.
Education at St. Jude’s is guided by love and concern and the
fundamentals of Catholic faith for students from pre-school to 8th
grade. With sidewalks and tree-lined streets students are within walking
or biking distance from home. Havre also offers a variety of nursery,
day-care and pre-school options for parents.
Havre is also
home of Montana State University- Northern. With steadfast support from
the community through history, Northern continues to contribute to the
community and the community in turn gives much to the college.
Mutual feelings of pride and appreciation have developed between the
college and the community for over 75 years.
Havre’s largest employer, Northern Montana Health Care is a community
hospital. As the area’s health care needs have increased, Northern
Montana Health Care has grown, maintaining a fine tradition for
providing the best in medical care and treatment for the Hi-Line. A
distinguished medical staff, dedicated staff and state of the art
technology make it one of the finest rural hospitals of it size. The
campus also includes a Care Center facility.
