This Chamber has a Mission.So business minded were the early businessmen that they had two promotional organizations: the Havre Industrial Association and the Havre Business Association. One represented the interests of the saloonkeepers while the other represented other businesses. The Industrial Association was actively working to promote Havre. In November of 1909 the Havre Industrial Association amended its by-laws and formally reorganized into the new Havre Chamber of Commerce. The basic mission of this organization has remained the same over the year; to develop and advance business, professional, and civic interests of Havre. Membership is made up of merchants, restaurants/motels, professionals, civic and religious groups. An elected Board of Directors; five officers and ten directors govern the Chamber. Administrative Director and Office Manager are employed by the Chamber to maintain the membership and the day to day running of the office. The Board establishes goals, sets policy and promotes programs and projects, which will benefits its members and the community of Havre. The Havre Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors a variety of activities during the year, which promote the towns and its businesses. We also market our membership through advertising, with the local media, the Chamber web site, newsletter, and the community information packet. Chamber membership brings a sense of unity to our business community. Havre is the regional hub for the Hi-Line. Our mission is to promote Havre and its businesses through effective advertising, planned events, community service, networking and education of the public. What does the Chamber do?You have probably heard the question asked at one time or another - and you may have wondered about it your self. Many believes the Chamber gathers statistics, prints nice brochures, visits new businesses, answers inquiries and advertises what a great place the area is to work, love and enjoy life. They are right. We do all of that proudly. But they aren’t why the Chamber is here. They are fringe benefits of the Chamber, the things we do as a matter of routine, because they need doing and we are good at them. The primary function of the Chamber goes far deeper – the chamber is a catalyst…a common vehicle through which business and professional people work together for the common good of the community. A better community means better business conditions. The Chamber works for a better community for everyone! Who is the “we” that does all of this?The Chamber members and all of your business and professional friends. You are the Chamber of Commerce. You provide the ideas, the drive, the goals, and the funds and the voluntary services to keep the Chamber doing what it does. You are the Chamber, and without you, there wouldn’t be any Chamber. |
